Rae Mathews

Owner/ Director Balanced Body CPT

A former classical Ballet dancer, Rae found her passion for pilates while seeking a modality that mimicked the structure and order of Ballet while also providing a path to healing and recovery from various injuries. She fell in love with the functional and restorative aspect of pilates while also enjoying the physical challenge of whole body exercise that came with it.

Rae began her Comprehensive Certification at Evolve Movement under the care of Melissa Kakavas through Balanced Body Institute in 2013 and has since worked with a variety of clientele, working to help correct and manage a vast array of physical challenges and disabilities. Some of which include, but are not limited to Scoliosis, Spondy, Ehler’s danlos, hypermobility, prenatal care, pelvic floor dysfunction + prolapse, low back pain, limb length discrepancy, migraine management, shoulder impingements, post surgery support after labral tears, hernias and general weakness. Rae has been so impressed by the versatility of pilates and its ability to meet every person where they’re at regardless of age, gender, movement history or fitness level. She has also had the pleasure of collaborating and working alongside a variety of PT’s, Chiropractors and Trainers in the Raleigh area to help restore balanced muscle development to clients with specific athletic inclinations (dancers, tennis players, runners, musicians and physicians).

An additional passion Rae has is to grow and support other new instructors in the early stages of their teaching through consultation + apprenticeship and as they open their own studios. Collaboration in the pilates community is what keeps us all thriving!
